INFO:
The Nordmørsbunad was sent in for a review with the norwegian tribunal in 1978/1979 and they concluded that the bunad did not match well with the old original garments.
The result of this review is the Nordmørsbunad as we know it today and is known as a thorough reconstruction of the costume used in Northern Nordmøre in the first half of the 19th century.
It was common to have 13 silver pieces on the belt as this represented the 13 municipalities in Nordmøre.
There are still many who follow this "rule" but there are also many who use as many pieces as they wish according to how close they want the silver on their belt to be.
VEST:
Many different vests have been found in Nordmøre, but today there are 6 different ones used.
They all have the same shape and you can freely choose between white silver, silver or gold metal bands for all vests.
The vest is sewn on the skirt and closed with hidden metal hooks.
SKIRT:
The skirt is made in black or dark blue wool and is sewed tightly together at the top of the waist with folds at the front which are covered with an apron.
APRON:
We make 5 different aprons to this bunad, and you can choose the one you like the best.
The white ones was commonly used for bigger events or parties, but since we only use bunads on those occation, they can all be used as you please.
The apron in with clear colors is woven in cotton with green or blue squares.
The apron with paler colors is woven in wool with mohair and the white aprons are made in linen with different embroideries.
SHIRT:
Many different shirts have also been found in Nordmøre, but there are 2 different ones that are most commonly used today; one is with crewel embroidery on the collar, shoulders and cuffs. This shirt can be made in linen, cotton or in a wrinkle-resistant fabric.
It was also common to embroider their initials inside the flower on the shoulders.
The other shirt has a counting-thread embroidery on the collar and cuffs, thus it`s only possible to make it in linen.
PURSE:
Here there are many varieties to choose from both in embroidery and color.
The most commonly used purse has a cross pattern, and has the same color as the skirt with different coloured embroideries.
You can also use a purse with a rose pattern embroidered with silk thread and a purse from the place Aure that is embroidered with wool in sharp colors with metallic thread details. Both of these are somewhat rounder in shape than the cross patterned purse.
BONNET:
It is designed a pointy hat for girls and a linen hat for married women with counted-thread embroidery.
Headbands have also become popular in recent times either in the same fabric as the vest or apron.
STOCKINGS:
The same color is used on the stockings as on the skirt of the bunad, but there are also several who use red stockings if they have a red vest.
OUTER GARMENT:
A jacket has been made for the Nordmørsbunad which is short, lined with colorful flower bands at the bottom and white silver bands along the collar and the opening of the jacket.
It closes with hidden hooks at the front.
A cape is also made for the bunad, which was launched in 1981. This is made of thick wool and has a high collar that is lined with velvet fabric. It is most commonly used today without underlined fabric because the fabric already is so thick and heavy.
But since Norway can be quite cold, the cape can also be lined with cotton, silk or with the original striped fabric in wool.
